I got the inspiration for a new melody while going through a series of photographs that I took while visiting friends in Gibson’s B.C. The north view off their deck contains a tantalizing horizon view of the North Shore Mountains, dominated by two twin jutting peaks commonly called The Lions.
Every hour of every day of my stay, the view changed as clouds rolled in and out and the twin peaks furtively revealed parts of themselves, always stopping short of full exposure, always teasing. It was as if the mountains were saying, “Come to us if you want to see it all …”. The Lions seemed to me to be the gateway to the wilderness, teetering on the edge of civilization. I understand that there are hiking trails up there. I must make the journey before I grow too old.
